Alcohol—Getting Help

While you, a friend, or loved one may be hesitant to seek help, know that treatment programs offer organized and structured services with individual, group, and family therapy for people faced with an alcohol-related issue. If you have a concern about alcohol, or if you know someone who might have a drinking problem, there are many others out there just like you, and there is help available.

The list provided below offers several support mechanisms for you and those close to you, whether you need guidance for how to get help, links to community support groups or professional associations, or listings for national toll-free hotlines.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism are the primary sources of information for people dealing with alcohol-related issues.
